How this is calculated

The taxable amount is the vehicle price minus your trade-in value, with sales tax applied to that amount. The loan principal is vehicle price + sales tax − down payment − trade-in value. Uses the standard fixed-rate amortization formula M = P·r(1+r)^n / ((1+r)^n − 1), where P is the loan amount, r is the monthly interest rate, and n is the number of monthly payments. Each payment is split into interest (balance × monthly rate) and principal (the rest), and the balance declines every month until it reaches zero at the final payment.

Frequently asked questions

Does trade-in value reduce the taxable amount?
In most US states, yes — sales tax is charged on the price minus your trade-in value, which this calculator applies. Some states tax the full price regardless; check your local rules if the estimate needs to be exact.
Should I include dealer fees?
Add any fixed dealer/documentation fees to the vehicle price before entering it here for a more accurate financed amount.
